Thermoplastic Elastomers

Thermoplastic Elastomers are well known for their ability to be stretched repeatedly and still return to their approximate original size.  TPEs are generally low modulus, flexible and can usually be recycled. Some applications are using thermoplastic elastomers as an alternative to traditional thermoset rubber materials, such as EPDM, SBR and NBR.rubbers. TPEs are also being used to improve impact strength of rigid thermoplastic materials.

Difference Between Thermoplastic and Theromset Materials

Thermoplastic Elastomers are different from thermoset elastomers in that they become soft when heated and harden when cooled. This process can repeat itself many times. Thermoset Elastomers, on the other hand, undergo a chemical change during processing, becoming cross-linked and permanently fused.

THERMOPLASTIC VULCANIZATE | TPV

Thermoplastic | TVP | Santoprene | Extrusion | Sheet

Thermoplastic vulcanizates are part of the thermoplastic elastomer family of polymers, but differ because the rubber component  is "vulcanized" or crosslinked, which creates favorable properties such as good compression set and heat resistance.Thermoplastic vulcanizates are processed like plastic, but have the properties and performance capabilities of rubber. TPV is closely related to EPDM in terms of performance, but also compare closely to other elastomers and can be a cost-effective, performance enhancing alternative for another traditional rubber material.  Several industries turn to TPVs for their products, most prominently the automotive, HVAC, appliance, construction, industrial and sealing.  TPVs can also be color-matched, providing additional opportunities for product creation and solutions.
