Howard Vipperman

President and CEO

I was born in 1948 in Los Angeles and have lived my entire life in Southern California. I attended Valencia High School in the City of Placentia graduating in 1966 I attended the University of Southern California and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration. I immediately joined the Navy for four years making two western pacific tours. After my military service I joined the family business, VIP Rubber Co., Inc and have served as President since 1979. I currently live in La Habra Heights with my wife Karen and together we have 5 children and 14 grandchildren. In 2007 I was elected to the City Council in La Habra Heights. I served as Mayor in 2010 and was reelected in 2011 to a second term. I also served on the Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority to insure the robust diversity of our local parks and open spaces.

I am a member of the Los Angeles Rubber Group and served on the board for many years. I was the Chairman in 2001. Since, 2003 I have run the annual charity golf tournament supporting undergraduate scholarships and been the liaison with the University of Southern California and the groups Memorial Scholarships supporting graduate work in the rubber and plastic industry. In 2009, I was awarded the highest honor that The Los Angeles Rubber Group Incorporated can give, "Honorary Life Member". There are only 9 living recipients of this honor that the 84 year old organization has given out. I am also a member of the American Chemical Society.

I am a member of Hacienda Golf Club and served on the Board of Directors from 2004 to 2007. I served as treasurer during the construction of the new clubhouse and negotiated the long term financing.

I feel comfortable giving back to our community. I am on the Board of Directors of the La Habra Boys and Girls Club. The Club is directed towards at risk children. It is a great benefit to the community. I am a member and was also on the Board of Directors of the La Habra Rotary Club. Rotary is dedicated to service to community and the World. I was one of the founding members of Firewatch a local safety association. I also founded La Habra Heights Adopt-A-Unit with Faith Grimm and my wife Karen. The City of La Habra Heights adopts a military unit that is serving abroad. La Habra Heights Adopt-A-Unit supports by sending letters, food and other usable items to them. I received the "Freedom Salute Award" The highest civilian award given by the military for my work supporting our troops. I am a member of Los Compadres a local service organization. I also contribute to Pet Prescription Team, La Habra Children's Museum, "Fast Friends" a Greyhound rescue organization and many more. I was on the Board of Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority and on the Finance Committee of Contract Cities.

VIP Rubber Company, under my leadership has supported the community in many ways. The company moved from Anaheim in 1994. The City of Anaheim conferred the title "Business of the Year" in the same year recognizing the contributions to the community made by my company. In 2012, I was selected as a Red Cross Corporate Hometown Hero because of my outstanding contributions through VIP Rubber Company to the City of La Habra and surrounding communities. VIP has always supported many soccer and baseball teams as well as industrial leagues. The walls of the company are decorated with many plaques commemorating the teams supported over the years. We have supported these community events including:

  • Support the local high schools, La Habra, Sonora and Whittier Christian

  • Many events in LHH including Avocado Festival, Snow in the park day
  • I support 4H and in 2010 contributed to 23 different 4H members
